As stated earlier the activity of market regulation in Goa started in Goa Since 1968 with the application of Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act 1963, as extended to then Union Territory. The then Goa Agricultural Produce Market Committee, was established in the year 1969 and establishment of Market yards was entrusted to it. The Marketing Board has so far established 8 market yards with its Main Yard at Margao and Sub-Market Yards on at Ponda, Sanquelim, Mapusa, Curchorem, Valpoi, Canacona and Pernem. The marketing Board has plans to establish Market at Banastarim.
At the present trade of all 21 Notified commodities are being traded in these market yards. In Goa, Regulation activity has achieved remarkable progress by centralizing the trade at Ponda, Curchorem, Valpoi, Canacona and Pernem Sub Yards. At Margao and Mapusa Yards centralization has received a little set back due to reluctance of coconut traders to shift the traders to shift the trade to market yard. At initial stage all persuasive methods are being used to shift the trade to the trade and Board hopes that it will be in a position to centralize the trade of Coconut to Margao Main Yard and trade of Banana, Coconut, Cashewnut to Mapusa Sub Market Yard.
